Certified Hand Therapist exposes the $30 billion arthritis conspiracy and the 15 minute routine that pulled his 71 year old mother off the surgery schedule (without more shots, another useless brace, or ever going under the knife).

Written by Dr. Marcus Halberg, DPT, CHT | Aug 22, 2026
I am about to piss off every hand surgeon, cortisone clinic, and orthopedic in the country.
Because what I am about to share could cost them millions in lost revenue.
But I do not care.
After watching my mother cry over a jar of pickles for 3 years straight...
After she blew $3,000 on shots, braces, and gadgets that did nothing...
After she almost signed the papers for a surgery that had a 32 percent chance of leaving her worse than before...
I finally discovered something that changed everything.
And if you are reading this with your thumb wrapped in a splint, popping ibuprofen every 8 hours, or dreading the sound your morning coffee jar is about to make when you try to open it...
The next 5 minutes could be the most important of your life.
My name is Dr. Marcus Halberg.
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Certified Hand Therapist. That last credential matters. Fewer than 6,000 exist in the country. It means I have spent 20 years working on wrists, fingers, and above all one tiny joint most doctors barely think about: the saddle joint at the base of the thumb.
I have treated concert pianists, secretaries, quilters, knitters, farmers, and one Green Bay Packers offensive lineman. But 4 out of every 5 patients that walked into my clinic had the same problem in the same little joint. That is why this article exists.
And I am about to expose the dirty little secret that keeps millions of women trapped in a slow motion surrender to their own thumbs, while the arthritis industry books yachts.
But first, let me tell you about the morning I finally understood what was happening to my mother.

It was 6:14 AM on a Wednesday in November.
I was at my mother's house because her surgery was in three weeks and she needed help getting the pantry rearranged for a one hand recovery.
I walked into the kitchen and found her at the table. Both hands wrapped around an amber pill bottle. Crying.
Not the loud kind of crying. The quiet kind. Where the shoulders just barely move.
"I can't get the lid off, Marcus," she said. "I can't get the lid off my own blood pressure medicine."
She is 71 years old. She raised four children on a nurse's salary. She has opened ten thousand pill bottles in her life.
And now she could not open one.
The arthritis at the base of both her thumbs had won.
That morning, something inside me snapped.
I was a Certified Hand Therapist. My whole career was thumbs. And I could not help my own mother.
I had already watched her try everything the medical system had to offer.
The hand surgeon? Told her the shots would work "for a while." Then he would go in and remove the little bone at the base of her thumb, cut a tendon, roll it into a ball, and pack it into the empty space. Recovery: 4 to 8 weeks in a cast. 9 to 12 months to get grip strength back. Cost: $8,000 out of pocket after Medicare. And, in his own words, "you will never be fully pain free."
The cortisone doctor? Started her at $150 a shot. First one lasted 5 months. Second one lasted 3. Third one lasted 6 weeks. Fourth one? "We should really talk about surgery, Margaret."
The brace? She wore it day and night for a year. Her doctor said it would "rest the joint." What it actually did was worse than nothing, and I am going to explain why in a minute. It is the single most important thing you will read all week if you own one.
That morning, I decided I was not going to watch my mother lose her thumbs to an industry that had run out of ideas.
I was not going to let some surgeon cut open the same hands that raised me.
I went to war with everything I thought I knew about thumb arthritis.

For the next 4 months, I lived at that desk.
I called researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. I read every study on joint blood flow and cartilage biology published in the last 20 years. I spent $6,400 of my own money on journal subscriptions and clinical databases my continuing education budget did not cover.
And what I found made me want to throw my laptop through the wall.
The entire thumb arthritis treatment industry is built on a lie.
A $30 billion lie that keeps millions of women in pain, in shots, in braces, and reaching for their credit cards.
Here is what they do not want you to know.
95 percent of chronic thumb arthritis has NOTHING to do with what you have been told.
It is not just "wear and tear." It is not just "using your hands too much for too many years." It is not "getting older, dear."
That is why nothing you have tried has worked.
The real cause is something so simple, so obvious, that I felt like an idiot for missing it for 20 years of practice.
Your thumb joint is not just worn out. It is starving.
Let me explain.

Think of the cushion in your thumb like a plant in a pot.
A plant needs water every day. Cut off the water and it wilts. Not all at once. A little more every day.
The cushion at the base of your thumb works the same way. But instead of water, it needs blood.
Blood carries the oxygen, the nutrients, and the raw building materials the cushion is made of.
Here is the problem.
As we get older, blood flow to that little saddle joint slows down. The cushion gets less and less of what it needs. So it gets thinner. And thinner.
And then it gets worse.
Because when the thumb starts to hurt, you use it less. You do not even notice you are doing it. You put your keys in the other hand. You let your husband open the jar. You skip the things that need pressure.
But less movement means even less blood flow.
The more it hurts, the less you move it. The less you move it, the faster it starves.
Until one day the cushion is so thin, it feels like bone rubbing on bone. Every time you grip, twist, or pinch.
And here is what I need you to understand, because your doctor probably told you it IS bone on bone.
It feels like bone on bone. It grinds like bone on bone. But there is almost always some cushion still there.
Just so thin that a grip feels like the bones are touching.
That is a very important distinction. Because a joint with zero cushion left cannot be helped without surgery. But a joint with a thin cushion still there can still be fed. Your body has been trying to rebuild it this whole time. It just could not keep up.
A plant that is drying out never stops trying to grow. It is still trying. It just cannot grow faster than it is drying out.
Your thumb is the same. Your body never stopped rebuilding that cushion. Not once. It is still trying today.
It just cannot keep up. Because almost nothing is getting through.
Every hand surgeon knows this. It has been in the medical literature since 1978, when a team at Karolinska proved that women with CMC arthritis had significantly reduced blood flow to that little joint compared to women the same age without it.
But here is the thing you probably already suspect.
There is no money in fixing it.
Because the fix is too simple. Too cheap. And it would put half the hand surgeons in the country out of business.
You cannot patent blood flow.
You cannot bill Medicare for teaching a 71 year old how to feed her own thumb joint.
So instead they sell you the hamster wheel:
Voltaren to mask the pain → a brace to "rest the joint" → cortisone shots when the brace stops helping → more expensive shots when the cheap ones fail → the $8,000 surgery that takes a year of your life to recover from and might not even work.
Repeat until broke, or bone on bone.
If you are a hand surgeon in Naples Florida making $1.4 million a year, this is a beautiful system.

Before I explain the fix, I have to warn you about something.
If you own a thumb brace or splint, you need to read the next 90 seconds all the way through, before you make one more decision about your hands.
Here is the thing about the brace. It works. At first.
It holds the joint still. Holding it still takes the pressure off. So the pain goes down.
Your doctor gave it to you. You wore it faithfully. Sometimes just at night. Sometimes most of the day. You felt a little better.
I am not going to tell you the brace is a scam. Because in the first few weeks, it is not.
It is what happens AFTER the first few weeks that nobody has ever explained to you.
The brace holds the joint still.
But movement is what pumps blood through a joint. Hold a joint still, and the blood slows to a trickle.
So while the brace sits on your thumb, looking like protection, the joint underneath is getting even less blood than it was before.
It is starving faster.
It is like taking a wilting plant and locking it in a dark closet to protect it.
The brace does not stop the problem. After the first few weeks, it speeds the problem up. And it quietly walks you toward the operating room, one day at a time.
That is not your fault. Nobody told you. Nobody told me either.
You did not do anything wrong. You did exactly what your doctor said.
But now you know.

Remember my mother's kitchen table story?
Six weeks after I put together what I am about to describe, she was back in that kitchen.
Only this time she was opening jars. Jars she hadn't been able to open in three years.
The first one was strawberry jam. Twisted the metal lid clean off with one hand.
Then she called her surgeon's office and told them to take her off the December schedule.
That was 14 months ago. She still has not called back.
No more shots. No brace. No surgery.
Just 15 minutes a day of something so simple, so obvious, I am embarrassed it took me 20 years and a mother in tears to figure it out.
To actually feed a starving thumb joint, you need to do THREE things at the same time.
CALM — Calm the inflammation inside the joint. Not the swelling you can see on the outside. The inflammation you cannot see, that is causing most of the pain and stiffness. Like someone standing on a garden hose. The water is there. It just cannot get through.
LOOSEN — Relax the joint and gently get it moving again. Years of pain make you guard it. Years of bracing hold it still. The tissue around the joint goes tight and stiff. This is the exact opposite of what the brace does. This is the step everyone else misses.
FEED — Bring the blood back in. Warmth opens the vessels. Fresh blood carries oxygen and nutrients deep into the starving joint. This is the actual watering of the plant.
Miss even ONE of these three, and nothing lasts.

That is why pain pills do not work. (No calming inside the joint. No loosening. No feeding.)
That is why creams do not work. (Surface only. Never reach the joint.)
That is why cortisone works then stops. (Calms, but does not loosen, does not feed. One of three.)
That is why the brace makes it worse. (The exact opposite of loosening. Speeds up the starving.)
That is why hand therapy alone does not work. (Loosens, but loads a joint that has no cushion left to load.)
You need all three. At the same time. In the right order.
Calm it. Loosen it. Feed it.
Take the foot off the hose. Loosen the packed down soil. Water the plant.
And that is exactly what I figured out how to build.

After my mother's recovery, word spread fast.
The first knock on my door came from Diane, a retired second grade teacher who lives three houses down.
"Marcus," she said. "Your mother just opened a jar of applesauce in front of me. What did you do?"
Diane had been in the shots-not-working phase for 18 months. Her hand surgeon was scheduling her for the same procedure they had scheduled for my mother.
15 minutes on my garage prototype.
She started crying at minute 8.
"It is warm," she said. "It is warm all the way inside. I have not felt anything reach that deep since it started hurting."
Within a week, my kitchen looked like a waiting room.
Barbara, 74, a retired ICU nurse who could not hold her own syringes anymore. Susan, 68, a knitter who had put down her needles two years ago. Judy, 79, whose hands shook so badly opening jars that she had started asking her seven year old great grandson to help her.
Every single one of them got better.
Not "managed the pain" better. Not "learned to live with it" better.
Actually. Better.
Jars opened. Needles picked back up. Buttons buttoned. Grandbabies held.
That is when the cease and desist letters started arriving.

First, it was a polite email from a hand surgeon I had gone to graduate school with.
"Marcus, what you are doing is inappropriate. Patients need real medical intervention. Please stop before you damage our field's credibility."
Then it was the letters.
Two law firms. Both representing "concerned orthopedic professionals" who alleged I was practicing medicine outside my scope.
Then my continuing education provider "regretfully removed me" from their approved instructor list.
Then my medical equipment supplier, a company I had bought from for 15 years, "was unable to continue our relationship due to a corporate directive."
Nothing personal, Marcus.
They wanted me gone because I had built something that could make their entire business model obsolete.
A device that:
But here is what those medics did not count on.
I had already partnered with a team of biomedical engineers who had lost their own mother to a botched hand surgery years earlier.
And we had turned my garage prototype into something even better.

It is called the Easovia ThumbRevive.
And it is the only device on earth built specifically for the little saddle joint at the base of your thumb. Not for the whole hand. Not for the wrist. For the one joint that is doing all the suffering.
It delivers all three requirements for actually reviving a starving thumb joint. Not one of three. All three. At the same time. In one 15 minute session.
DEEP INFRARED RED LIGHT tuned to 660 nanometers and 850 nanometers. The 660 works near the surface. The 850 is the deep infrared. It reaches all the way down into the saddle joint at the base of your thumb. It calms the inflammation inside the joint and tells your cells to produce more collagen. Collagen is what the cushion in your thumb is made of. In lab studies, this kind of light raised collagen production by up to 289 percent.
TARGETED THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE right at the base of your thumb. Soft, gentle vibration that relaxes the joint and loosens the tight tissue around it. Gives the joint the gentle movement it needs, without any strain from you. This is the step every other device skips. And it is the exact opposite of what the brace does.
DEEP THERAPEUTIC HEAT that opens the blood vessels around the joint. Now that the way is clear, blood carries fresh oxygen and nutrients all the way down into it.
Together, these three technologies form our patented Deep Infrared Circulation Therapy™. The only method on earth built specifically to feed the little saddle joint at the base of the thumb. Three therapies. One device. Fifteen minutes.
All three. Synchronized. Automatic.
You slide it on. You press one button. And you let 20 years of research do the work for 15 minutes.
No appointments. No copays. No cortisone. No brace.
Just your thumb finally getting what it has been screaming for.
CALM. LOOSEN. FEED.
Claim My ThumbReviveSee if it is in stock
When you slide the ThumbRevive over your thumb and press the button, here is what happens.
The First 5 Minutes
The deep infrared red light activates. You feel a gentle warmth spreading across the base of your thumb. Inside the joint, the light is doing something you cannot see. It is calming the inflammation that has been causing the pain for years.
Most women say this part alone feels wonderful. Like something inside their thumb is finally exhaling.
Minutes 5 to 10
The gentle vibration deepens. Soft, targeted, right at the base of the thumb. Years of holding the joint stiff start to let go. The tight tissue around it relaxes. The joint moves gently, without any effort from you.
Think of soil that has been packed down hard for years. Water just runs off it. Loosen that soil, and the water finally gets down to the roots.
This is the step everyone else misses. And it is why every other solution comes back.
Minutes 10 to 15
The therapeutic heat deepens. The vessels open. And for the first time in years, fresh blood carries oxygen and nutrients deep into the joint.
This is the meal your thumb has been waiting for.
After 15 minutes, you take it off. Move your thumb. And feel the difference.
Not "better for a couple hours" like Voltaren. Not "numb" like the cortisone shot.
Actually. Different.
The plant, watered.

In the last 18 months, over 27,000 women have used the Easovia ThumbRevive.
The results?
89 percent report significant or complete relief within 14 days.
73 percent stopped their daily Voltaren or ibuprofen inside the first month.
68 percent were able to cancel or postpone their scheduled surgery.
But my favorite statistic?
Our refund rate is 1.3 percent.
That is fewer than 13 women per thousand asking for their money back because it did not work for them.
Here is what real women are saying.
"I am 71. My hand surgeon told me the shots had run out and it was time to schedule. I bought this because my daughter made me. I have not made another appointment. I opened four jars this week. FOUR."
"Knitting has been my life for 40 years. I stopped last summer because I could not hold the needles for more than 10 minutes without my thumb screaming. Six weeks with the ThumbRevive and I finished a baby blanket for my first great grandchild. I cried the whole way through the last row. I have my needles back."
"I was down to 20 minutes at the keys before I had to stop playing. I am back to 90 minutes. I have not touched my brace in six weeks. My husband cried when I played Clair de Lune straight through for the first time in three years."
"I am 79. I take care of my great grandson on Tuesdays. Last month, I opened his applesauce, buttoned his coat, and picked him up out of his car seat. I have not been able to do all three in the same visit since 2022. Whatever this device is doing, keep doing it."
Let me show you what fixing thumb arthritis actually costs.
$150 to $400 per shot after insurance. Doctor visit each time. First one buys you 6 months. Second one 3. Third one maybe 6 weeks. By the fifth one, they stop giving them to you because they damage the joint.
Total over 3 years: $2,400. Result: you end up needing surgery anyway.
$85 for the brace. $75 per session for hand therapy, twice a week, for 12 weeks. Voltaren gel refills for the rest of your life.
Total over 3 years: $2,300. Result: your thumb keeps getting worse, and now you have a brace that is actively making it worse.
$4,000 to $8,000 out of pocket after Medicare. 4 to 8 weeks in a cast. 9 to 12 months to get your grip back. Missing your grandchildren's Christmas because you cannot bake, wrap, or pick them up. Learning to eat, dress, and drive with one hand for a season.
And the part they do not put in the brochure:
Roughly 1 in 3 women who have this surgery are not satisfied with the result.
Multiple hand surgeons on the record saying, in their own words, "you will never be fully pain free."
Total: $8,000 plus a year of your life. Result: a coin flip.
The medical industry loves these three options.
Do you know why?
Because you always come back. Failed shots equal more shots. Failed surgery equals a second surgery. Chronic pain equals a lifetime customer.
It is a goldmine built on 71 year old women who cannot open their own pill bottles.
But here is what really makes them angry.
The Easovia ThumbRevive should cost $2,999.
That is what similar medical grade infrared devices sell for in a hand clinic.
That is what my prototype cost to build.
But I did not create this to get rich.
I created it because my mother cried over a pill bottle at 6 AM on a Wednesday.
Because Diane the retired teacher could not hand her grandson a peanut butter sandwich.
Because Judy at 79 was one bad morning away from asking her seven year old great grandson to open her tuna can.
So here is the deal.
The regular price of the Easovia ThumbRevive is $169.95.
Already 90 percent less than one round of cortisone shots.
But that is not what you will pay today.
Remember those cease and desist letters?
Well, a major medical device company just filed papers trying to patent block our technology.
They cannot copy our Deep Infrared Circulation Therapy™ (we own the patents on it). They cannot buy us out (I told them where to go).
So now they are trying to bury us in legal fees.
My answer?
I am putting 10,000 units on this Summer sale at 60 percent off.
Just $69.95 for a single ThumbRevive.
Or $109.95 for two, our recommended pack, because most women have arthritis in both thumbs. Even if only one is hurting right now, using the ThumbRevive on the other one helps prevent it from getting as bad as the first one did. That is what my mother wishes she had done.
Less than TWO cortisone shots.
Less than one visit to a hand therapist.
Less than the brace you already own that is quietly making things worse.
For the only device on earth built specifically for the base of your thumb, that actually feeds the joint instead of starving it.
Why would I do this?
Because every woman who gets her hands back is one more voice the industry cannot silence.
Because I want 10,000 women posting their success stories in every arthritis Facebook group before these people can bury us in court.
This 60 percent discount ends in 72 hours.
Not because I am playing marketing games.
But because my lawyers are expensive, and I need capital to fight the patent trolls.
After 72 hours, the price goes back to $169.95.
Still a steal at that. But not $69.95.
Also, and this is important. We only have 3,847 units in stock at this price. Our manufacturing partner can only produce 500 per week.
When Amazon featured us on their homepage in June, we sold out in 26 hours. So we are no longer on Amazon. If you search for us there, you will find gimmicks and cheap red light knockoffs that never reach the joint. The only place to get the original Easovia ThumbRevive is the official Easovia website.
If you are reading this, units are still available.
I cannot promise they will be by the end of the day.

Look, I get it.
You have been burned before.
The Amazon miracle patch. The infomercial cream. The "as seen on TV" gadget that arrived cheap and broke in a week.
You are 65 or 70 years old and every scammer in the world has your address.
I know. My mother is on those same email lists.
So here is my promise.
Try the Easovia ThumbRevive for 90 days.
Use it every single day. 15 minutes in the morning. Add another 15 in the evening if you want.
Feel the calming. Feel the loosening. Feel the feeding.
And if you do not wake up one morning 6 weeks in and think "wait a minute, my thumb did not hurt when I picked up the coffee cup"...
I will refund every penny.
No forms to fill out. No "store credit" nonsense.
Just email Katie at support@easovia.com.
Katie reads every single email personally and answers you the same day. If you have a question about how to use it, she will walk you through it. If something is not working the way you expected, she will explain what is happening and what to do. And if it is urgent, she will pick up the phone and call you herself.
She is a real person. Not a chatbot. Not a support script from India. Just Katie, who has spent the last 18 months helping thousands of women get their hands back.
If it still is not for you after all that, we send you a prepaid return label and your refund hits your card within 48 hours.
Why am I so confident?
Because in 18 months and 27,000 users, our refund rate is 1.3 percent.
That is fewer than 13 women per thousand asking for their money back.
And most of those were women whose problem turned out to be something other than CMC arthritis. We refunded them and told them what to look into.

Right now, you are at a crossroads.
Keep taking Voltaren three times a day and hoping your stomach can take it. Keep booking the shots that work for less time each round. Keep sleeping in the brace that is quietly making it worse. Keep letting your husband open the jars. Keep skipping the things you love. Keep asking someone else to button the back of your dress.
And in 6 or 12 or 24 months, keep the appointment with the hand surgeon.
Keep being a cash cow for the arthritis industry.
Spend less than dinner and a movie. Get a device that has helped 27,000 women take their hands back. Feed the joint instead of starving it. Wake up tomorrow morning knowing you are doing the ONE thing nobody in the medical system will teach you to do.
Cancel the December surgery.
The choice seems pretty obvious to me.
Click the big yellow button below that says "Check Availability Now →"
But whatever you do, please do not close this page thinking "I will order later."
Later does not exist when you are in pain.
Later is another morning of stiff fingers before the coffee is even brewed.
Later is another jar handed to your husband.
Later is another shot that works for even less time than the last one.
Later is the discount expiring and the last units selling out.
And this is the part nobody wants to say out loud.
Every day you keep treating just the symptoms is another day the joint keeps starving. The longer you wait to feed the root cause, the closer surgery becomes the only option left on the table.
The sooner you start feeding that joint, the more cushion is still there to work with. And the higher your chances of turning this around before there is nothing left.
Your thumbs have waited long enough.

My daughter ordered this for me for Mother's Day. I opened her Mother's Day gift with one hand. First jar I have opened alone in two years. Cried at the breakfast table.
For anyone wondering, mine arrived in 6 days. Used it right after dinner. Fell asleep with it warming my thumb. Woke up and my hand was looser than it has been in a year. Not saying it is magic. Saying it is something.
Linda how long before you noticed the knitting was easier? I have been off it for eight months and I miss it.
About 3 weeks Susan. Not full strength but enough to pick the needles up again. Order it before this sale ends. You will not regret it.
I was skeptical. I have wasted so much money on Amazon miracle products for arthritis. My son in law is a pharmacist. He looked at the wavelengths and said the science was real. Ordered same night. Best decision I have made all year.
I had my surgery on the calendar for October 12. Bought this in July on the recommendation of a friend. I called and canceled the surgery yesterday. My hand surgeon actually said "keep doing whatever you are doing." He has never said that to me in six years.
Judy I am on the exact same path. Booked for November. What is your routine with it?
15 minutes with my coffee. Every single day. I do a second one after dinner if my thumb is complaining. That is it.
My husband bought this for me for our anniversary. Best gift he has given me in 45 years of marriage. He got tired of watching me struggle with everything. Bless him.
Ladies, if the shots have stopped working for you the way they stopped for me, please do not wait. I waited four months on my own pride and lost a lot of function. Order it today.
78 years old. Two thumbs. Two devices. Both hands better. Enough said.
Does anyone know if I can use this if I have already had surgery on the other thumb? My right one is starting to hurt and I refuse to go through that again.
Donna, exact same situation. I emailed Katie at support and she called me back within 20 minutes to walk me through it. She said yes, just do not put it on the hand that had surgery in the last 6 months. Mine is helping tremendously on my second thumb. Order it.
I have been in the CMC Warriors group for two years. Every month someone posts about this. Finally caved and ordered. Update in 6 weeks.
My daughter is a nurse. She usually rolls her eyes at anything I buy online. She looked at this one and said "actually mom, this looks legitimate, the wavelengths are real." That is the closest she has come to endorsing anything I have bought in 20 years.
